To Buhari and Tinubu: Our bouquet of appreciation

Being the text of an address by the leadership of Team S. O. B in commemoration of 2018 June 12 democracy day and appreciation of the leadership roles of President Muhammad Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Gentlemen of the Press, well-wishers and other people here present, we warmly welcome you here as Chieftains and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu division of Lagos state today,  Tueday, 12th of June 2018.

We are gathered here at the secretariat of our party in Ikorodu Local Government to host party men from Ikorodu Central, North and West LCDAs, as we celebrate the duo of President Muhammadu Buhari and the national leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their commendable roles in the eventual recognition of the enormous sacrifices made by the late Chief M.K.O Abiola, and other June 12 heroes and heroines, for Nigeria and Nigerians."

Today, we express our deep appreciation to Mr. President for recognising the late symbol of the June 12 mandate and declaring the day as the authentic democracy day in Nigeria. This declarations are noteworthy and commendable in view of the refusal of previous federal administrations to accord June 12 national recognition. With these actions in honour of MKO Abiola and other heroes of the struggle, President Buhari has shown that he is indeed a democrat.

It is important to commend the succesive governments in Lagos state, starting from Asiwaju Tinubu to incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, for their recognition of, and commitment to, the June 12 mandate.

No less of commendation are the legislative efforts and advocacy of the Lagos State House of Assembly, especially in calling for the replacement of May 29th with June 12th as democracy day. Thank God, the struggle for the enthronement of June is now won.

Also, the conferment of national honour on the late Gani Fawehinmi is good news for democracy and a proud moment for Nigeria. We make bold to say that the souls of these and other unsung matrys of democracy will now rest more peacefully.

With the award of GCFR to Chief Abiola, it is now acknowledged that he won the 1993 election and should have been allowed to serve as our president after winning that free and fair expression of the popular will.

We are happy to recall that the actualisation of Abiola's mandate was one struggle Asiwaju Tinubu committed himself to very seriously. Therefore, on a day like this,we cannot but congratulate our national leader on the recognition of both Abiola and June 12 by the federal government. It is yet another victory for Akanbi, the people's leader. Once again Asiwaju, congratulations on this well deserved victory.

We are here to extoll the democratic virtues of our leader, Asiwaju Tinubu, not only for standing firm on the June 12, 1993 mandate until it was recognized by the federal government, but also to appreciate him for his efforts at ensuring that ward and local government executive members in Lagos State APC,  who were first timers and loyal to the party, were reelected unopposed to their various offices across Ikorodu division, in spite of efforts in some quarters, to disenfranchised them.

We are also showing appreciation to Asiwaju because following his democratic insistence that due diligence be followed in resolving some issues emanating from the congresses held across our division,  APC in Ikorodu today is devoid of any crisis as leaders and members are satisfactorily working together to prepare for forthcoming polls.

In the same vein, we appreciate the efforts the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. S.O.B Agunbiade, who also represents Ikorodu constituency 1 in the assembly, for his dogged determination  to ensure that the first timers were not denied their right to seek re-election. His relentless advocacy on their behalf and support towards justice and equity is one reason why Ikorodu APC is strongly united today. May the good God also bless the resilient Hon. Adebayo Oshinowo for his support as a leader of inestimable value.

Today's event, which featured a thank you rally through major streets of the town by party members, is to appreciate our leaders,  President Buhari and Asiwaju Tinubu,  as well as to give thanks to God almighty for sustaining peace in Ikorodu APC. Of course, it is also to commemorate the June 12 holiday as we have done in the past.

At the rally,  we had speeches by prominent speakers, eulogising both the President and the national leader and expressing the gratitude of party faithfuls to the two leaders for meeting the yearnings of majority of Nigerians and the Abiola family. Here with us since morning for these events are party leaders, elected APC office holders, traditional leaders, recently sworn - in LGA & Ward Executive members in Ikorodu Local Government, Ikorodu North and Ikorodu West Local Council Development Areas and other dignitaries.

We thank you for coming and we hope you will also remember today for good always.

Signed:

Lagos Assembly Passes Law Against Illegal Land Occupation; Grabbers Face 21-yr Jail Term.

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, passed a Bill to prohibit forceful entry and illegal occupation of landed properties in the state.

According to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, after the Bill had gone through the Third Reading and finally passed by a voice vote of all members present at plenary session, told the acting Clerk of the House, Mr.  Azeez Sanni, to forward a clean copy of the bill to the state Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, for his assent.

According to the provisions of the bill, land grabbers can now face a maximum and minimum of 21 and five year imprisonment respectively if convicted. There are also various fine impositions for individuals or groups convicted of the offence.

The bill provides for prohibition of forceful land take over, entry by force, illegal occupation of property, use of land agents, illegal use of Law enforcement agents, encroaching with a weapon, sales of property without authority and professional misconduct among others with their attendant punishments as regards the particular offence.

The law was read a third time on plenary through a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade.

The passage of this bill into law in Lagos State is a huge step towards a lasting solution to the activities of the land grabbers, popularly known as Omo Oniles or Ajagungbales which have become an age long menace in the state.

The law prohibits the incessant forceful entry and illegal occupation of landed properties, violent and fraudulent conducts in relation to landed properties in Lagos State and for connected purposes.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, urged Governor Ambode to sign the bill into law for enforcement.

It is imperative therefore to mention that this bill was proposed in 2010 as a private member bill, sponsored by Hon.Sanai Agunbiade in conjunction with Hon.Bayo Oshinowo. The bill went through different stages and thwarted at different times. The 8th assembly therefore recorded a huge success in making it a bill.

Public works Machineries on site

I am pleased to inform that the Lagos Sate Public Works Corporation has upon Governor's directive, commenced palliative repairs of the damaged portion of the Lagos State stretch of this Federal Road.

This is the 2nd time the State Government is repairing the road since Governor Ambode assumed office. The first time was sequel to a letter I addressed to His Excellency, Governor Ambode, on 30th June 2015 and subsequent interactions which yielded dividend on 22nd of August 2015, that the repair work started.
This time around, the portion undergoing repairs will be resurfaced with bitumen (tarred) to make the repair last, till when the Federal Government will re-award the whole length of the road (from Ikorodu to Isagamu) for reconstruction.

I am aware that our member House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Benson has raised a motion in Abuja in respect of reconstruction of this road by the Federal Government .

I enjoin all road users to please cooperate with officials and men of the Public Works Corporation and LASTMA while the repair works last.
I express appreciations to the Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Obasa and Other Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly for their support and cooperation while the Motion was been debated and resolution on it communicated to the Governor.

MKO ABIOLA'S SUPREME SACRIFICE FOR POSTERITY

MKO ABIOLA
I remember with nostalgia the course and the events that cumulated in the conspiracy and murder of Bashorun M.K.O Abiola.
The memories flow so fresh about the June 12 struggle; through the streets and the cities of Nigeria in the dark moment of Nigeria democratic experiment of actualizing a mandate that was freely and fairly entrusted to Kashiwawo Abiola, beyond the frontiers of tribal and religious sentiments.

Today, the tears are dry but those that were maimed still carry the scars and wounds of the struggles, while those that were fatally unfortunate to lose their lives in the struggle are
Kokori, Hon Sob Agunbiade and others
far asleep in their permanent abode - below the ground level.
Chief Abiola had a choice to rethink, recline and renounce the mandate, so as to regain his freedom and continue to live his life of affluence and philantropism, but he chose to act like a true Aree-Ona-Kakanfo and a real man, that must not abandon a genuine cause half way. Olawale paid the supreme sacrifice for posterity……….. he died for Nigeria.
Do the beneficiaries of the democratic dividend of Moshood Kasimawo. Abiola’s supreme sacrifice live to justify the hard choice made by Abiola?
103.pngWhile thanking those that keep the memories fresh year - in - year out, I enjoin all that occupy positions of democratic power, to remember always,s that the current democratic reign has not been achieved on a platform of gold.
Therefore, in all we do, let us be conscious of the pains and blood of the martyrs of the foundation of this political dispensation.
